Fun Fact~ When Lana is not doing the work she loves,
she is most likely out and about with the people she loves,
or "blissed out" in a dance class.
My Youtube channel will continue to feature new dance therapy pieces: youtube.com/user/lanaisaacson
I am a wife and a mother of a beautiful son. I understand what it means to be in a committed, conscious relationship. I am also a "mamapreneur" and understand the challenges of mothers who work outside the home. Having been a full-time mom for my son's first two years (after working outside the home), I also have great respect for stay at home parents. I do my best in finding a balance between gratifying work, family time, couple time, and self-care/spiritual growth, and feel grateful for all of it!
I have worked in a variety of settings, such as K-12 schools, intensive outpatient programs for teens and adults, a dual diagnosis transitional residential treatment center, DUI groups, Couples & Families "teaching clinics" with one way mirrors and filmed sessions, and finally private practice. I continually hear from individuals in recovery "you understand me", and from family members, "I appreciate your compassion, hope, and guidance".
I have also experienced empowering support, therapeutic, and educational groups through the 12 step and other models (ex. new mom support group or couples workshops), and I encourage clients to seek out several different healing and personal growth modalities, such as yoga, meditation, self-help literature or retreats, doing a hobby you love, etc. I too continually explore new forms of personal, spiritual, and relationship growth.
Couples and families find that doing real exercises in my office or workshops in expressing feelings and needs, sharing appreciations, working through conflicts, etc. increases their confidence and competence in using these skills outside of sessions. I slow couples and families down so they can be more aware of their internal process and family member's body language, and coach them to interact in more genuine, effective, and compassionate ways.
I practice therapy in unique ways that go beyond talk therapy. I utilize a "show me" (your problem, solutions, feelings, secret longings, hidden pain, relationship dynamics, etc.) method of therapy to help clients get to the core of their impasse. Art, writing, drama, and sand therapy are some of the optional modalities that support clients in telling their story and more fully expressing themselves. Movement therapy also allows clients to access their bodies' (or intuition) wisdom, emotions, and memories.
In addition to offering high quality therapy in my office, I also provide support and education to couples and families at treatment centers and support groups, such as:
I see the strengths and potential in everyone I meet, and am moved by clients' love, commitment to change, and resilience. Please see the story called “The Cracked Pot” and blog, "Shedding New Light on the Cracked Pot Story" to learn more about my philosophy as a therapist.
